Chapter 1: Getting Started

It’s official. I’m registered, oriented, loaded down with books, and making good use of my highlighter pen. I’m a law student.

I did receive a warning two weeks ago. On registration day there was a young man outside the classroom building, telling anyone who would listen not to go to law school. I believe he was a student. And I hope he was just having a bad day and not the one sane person on campus. Either way, it’s too late. My check’s been cashed and I’m starting on week two of this adventure.

  1. Irene Morgan says:

Law student, eh? Started thinking about that future job yet? May I make a suggestion? Check out JD Match in between the papers and exams. I work with JD Match and it’s a great step for any law student looking for an AmLaw firm job and a little weight off their shoulders. http://bit.ly/AmwzVa

It’s wonderful to get updates, Carrie. Even if that guy had been a law student, you can prove him wrong. Keep on going, girl!

  3. He was probably saying that because you’ll come out of law school about 120,000 in debt and the days of lawyers making the money to actually be able to pay that back have passed. Scott and I have looked at some of the issues of attending law school because of the economic decline. But, I also believe it’s a two-sided coin. We have acquaintances that have struck out on their own and do really well, while others are working at K-Mart, no joke. Anyway, if you want the good, the bad and the gray areas, you can talk to Scott. He learned some lessons his first year, but ultimately, I don’t think he is regretting attending TJSL.
